About the Louisville Fire Department


  • Provides full-time fire protection, hazardous materials and emergency medical services 24/7 through a combination career and volunteer firefighter program, led by a full-time paid fire chief.
  • Provides a duty crew program that staffs the fire station with      3-5 volunteer firefighters from 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. daily. Includes some daytime crews also.
  • Provides full-time paramedic advanced life support services within our service area.
  • Owns and maintains two fire stations. Station #2’s 5,800 square ft. expansion was funded with cash. No bond issues or tax increases required.
  • Maintains a district-owned fleet of five fire trucks including   two aerials, two command vehicles, three utility vehicles.  Also,  we lease-purchase one brush truck and our newest pumper.  The district also owns two ambulances.

  • Maintains automatic light changing system purchased and installed to provide for safer faster emergency responses within our district.
  • Maintains one of the lowest tax mill levies in the area.

  • Has zero bonded-indebtedness.
  • Owns a 1.5-acre parcel of property earmarked for a future fire station site, which was donated by Storagetek.
  • Provides top-of- the-line equipment, accommodations, and various monetary reimbursements and stipends to the volunteer firefighters. Also, volunteers receive apparel, custom bunker gear, health and life insurance policies, funding for social functions, specialized training in firefighting, EMS and Hazmat, all at district expense.
  • Funds a ten – twenty year pension program for the benefit of our volunteer firefighters, which includes a surviving spouse benefit for member joining the department prior to December 15, 2006. 
  • Funds a reserve firefighter program for the benefit of our volunteer firefighters joining the department after December 15, 2006.  This includes an annual length of service award instead of a pension.
