Open Burning Regulations

Recreational fires and outdoor fireplaces are permitted in the City of Louisville under the following requirements:

  • No active fire ban in place or hazardous atmospheric conditions
  • The fire is in a container approved for fire use
  • The fire container is located at least 15 feet from combustables or structures
  • Flame length is no more than 2 feet high
  • The fire container is no more than 2 feet in diameter
  • Fire must be attended at all times with a method of extinguishment
  • Burning trash, leaves, or other yard debris is prohibited

If LFPD responds to your home and finds the fire unsafe, you will be requested to extinghush the fire immediately.

Please be sensitive to your neighbors regarding the smoke caused by recreational fires.

Fireworks, model rockets, or any other projectiles with ignition source potential are prohibited in the City of Louisville limits and unincorporated Boulder County.
